About Wicken
Medieval Wicken was originally two separate villages, Wick Hamon and Wick Dive, which were unified into a single parish in 1587. The parish sits on the north bank of the Great Ouse, on the boundary between Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire, close to Old Stratford.
The parish church, St John the Evangelist, has medieval origins: its tower was rebuilt in 1617, and the nave was built between 1753 and 1767 by Thomas Prowse of Wicken Park, who died before the work was finished. A second church, St James’s in Wick Hamon, once stood alongside it but was taken down after the two parishes merged.
Neighbouring areas include Deanshanger, Passenham and Old Stratford.
