About Grafton Regis
Grafton Regis was recorded in the Domesday Book as Grastone, part of the Honour of Grafton held after 1066 by Count Robert of Mortain. From around 1100 the manor passed to a Norman monastery, whose bailiff occupied the manor house until 1348.
From about 1440 the manor was home to the Woodville family, and the village became known as Grafton Woodville. The church of St Mary the Virgin, at the centre of the village, has medieval origins and contains an altar-tomb of Sir John Woodville. When Henry VIII acquired the manor in 1527 and enlarged the house, the village took on its modern name of Grafton Regis.
Neighbouring areas include Potterspury, Yardley Gobion and Ashton.
